  • IS FERTILITYSMART CONCEIVE A DRUG?

    For Women

FertilitySmart Conceive for Women is not a drug. It is a daily nutritional supplement. While it is not intended for the treatment of any disease, it may be used as a “soft” approach to optimize fertility in a natural manner, as an option prior to, or instead of, “hard” options such as in-vitro fertilisation or fertility drugs. FertilitySmart Conceive does not have the degree of side effects associated with drug therapy, but it should not be combined with IVF or drug therapy due to the risk of enhancing or interfering with those effects.

    For Men

FertilitySmart Conceive for Men is not a drug. It is a daily nutritional supplement. While it is not intended for the treatment of any disease, it may be used as a “soft” approach to optimize fertility in a natural manner, as an option prior to, or instead of, “hard” options such as in vitro fertilization or fertility drugs. Although FertilitySmart Conceive for Women should not be combining with IVF or fertility drugs due to possible hormone interactions, men’s FertilitySmart Conceive should not interfere with these type of fertility treatments.

  • WHY ARE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS PREFERABLE TO DRUGS?

    For Women

Nutritional fertility supplements take a more gradual, gentle, natural approach compared to drugs. The focus with fertility supplements is the optimisation of health and wellness, rather than the treatment of disease. Drugs are used for the treatment of specific conditions, often by altering biological pathways, sometimes in a very powerful or unnatural manner, and often with undesirable side effects. FertilitySmart Conceive for Women works with the body to improve the underlying hormone balance and reduce free radical damage, rather than forcing the body with a quick acting drug.

  • HOW MUCH DO I TAKE AND HOW LONG BEFORE IT STARTS TO WORK?

    For Women

As a dietary supplement, take 2 capsules per day. It’s best to take the capsules throughout the day, one with each meal, however, you may take the 2 capsules all at once with food if it is more convenient. Use for at least 3 months before expecting a significant alteration in hormone balance and fertility. If conception is not achieved within this time, you may want to have your partner take FertilitySmart Conceive for Men. At least 50% of fertility issues are due to low sperm quality and motility. You may also want to check with doctor to determine whether there are any physical causes for low fertility that can be corrected by standard medical procedures. Usually doctors recommend at least a year of trying to conceive before undergoing extensive fertility tests.

    For Men

Use for at least 3 months before expecting a significant alteration in sperm quality and fertility. If conception is not achieved within this time, you may want to have your partner take FertilitySmart Conceive for Women. Female fertility issues are often due to hormonal imbalances or stress factors that decrease the rate of egg release. You may also want to check with doctor to determine whether there are any physical causes for low fertility that can be corrected by standard medical procedures. Usually doctors recommend at least a year of trying to conceive before undergoing extensive fertility tests.

  • WHAT CAUSES FERTILITY ISSUES?

    For Women

As many as 15% of couples have difficulty conceiving a child. In about one third of these cases, it is the man that has low fertility; in another third, the female has fertility issues… The remaining third is due to both male and female fertility issues or unknown causes. In many of these cases, the causes of low fertility are treatable. Infertility is defined as the failure to become pregnant after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse. The first step in dealing with fertility issues should always be a thorough health exam of both partners to determine any obvious physical problems. If these are ruled out, sometimes doctors or patients don’t know where to look next. If infertility is due to hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies or age, natural remedies should be considered.

Hormonal imbalance can be determined by blood tests of reproductive hormone levels. Measuring follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), oestrogen and progesterone at day 12 and 21 can indicate whether the hormonal state is compatible with pregnancy. LH or progesterone insufficiency also can be diagnosed with a urine test, or an abnormal monthly temperature chart. If progesterone is low, there is less of an expected increase in temperature during the second half of the cycle after ovulation. Without sufficient progesterone, the endometrium cannot be prepared for implantation, and the fertile ova cannot be converted into the corpus luteum.

    For Men

As many as 15% of couples have difficulty conceiving a child. In about one third of these cases, it is the man that has low fertility; in another third, the female has fertility issues. The remaining third is due to combined male and female infertility issues, or unknown causes. In many of these cases, the causes of low fertility can be addressed.

Most cases of low male fertility display an abnormal sperm count or low sperm motility. Even though it takes only one sperm to fertilize an egg, there are many natural barriers in the female reproductive system that keep sperm from reaching the egg. Out of 200 million sperm in an average ejaculate, only 40 reach the vicinity of the eggs. Low sperm count or motility dramatically reduces the chances of the sperm reaching the egg.

In about 10% of the cases of low sperm count (oligospermia) the cause can be identified and treated by standard medical procedures. In the other 90%, the cause of low sperm count cannot be identified and is called “idiopathic oligospermia”. Many of these cases, however, can be treated by changes in lifestyle.

  • WHY IS NUTRITION IMPORTANT?

    For Women

Lifestyle changes are often helpful in increasing chances for conception. Smoking, caffeine and alcohol consumption, and excessive or insufficient body weight, and stress have all been related to reduced fertility in women. Reproductive organs are highly susceptible to free radical or oxidative damage from environmental toxicants and natural aging. A balanced, nutritional diet, and nutritional supplements with a high antioxidant content (e.g. Vitamin E and Selenium) can help reverse some of this damage. Green Tea has been shown to be a potent antioxidant, and tea drinking has been associated with increased chances of conception, as opposed to other caffeinated beverages that have a negative effect on fertility.

Chasteberry is the major herb used for improving hormone balance. Chasteberry increases LH production and mildly inhibits the release of FSH. The result is a shift in the ratio of oestrogen to progesterone, favouring corpus luteum production. Several clinical studies in Europe used Chasteberry successfully to restore progesterone balance, and induce fertility (39 of 45 women increased progesterone levels and 7 became pregnant within 3 months; see references).

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has been shown to improve conception rates, as well as treat PMS symptoms, but whether due to a primary insufficiency is unclear. Folic acid, Vitamin B12, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc and Selenium deficiencies have been known to cause fertility issues that are easily reversible with supplementation. L-Arginine, an amino acid, helps improve circulation to the reproductive organs to enhance their receptivity to egg implantation.

    For Men

Often a reduction in intake of alcohol, tobacco, prescription or non-prescription drugs, or avoidance of environmental contaminants can enhance sperm production. Usually an improvement in nutrition or supplementation also is necessary to reverse damage to the reproductive system incurred by stress or past abuses. Sperm are highly susceptible to free radical or oxidative damage from environmental toxicants and natural aging. Vitamins C and E, Green Tea and Selenium are all potent antioxidants that help improve sperm counts and quality by reducing free radical damage. Ferulic acid, an antioxidant found in Dong Quai, has also been shown to improve sperm quality. Zinc and B Vitamins (especially B6 and B12) are critical nutrients in male reproductive systems for several reasons, including hormone metabolism, sperm formation and motility. The amino acids, L-Arginine and L-Carnitine have also been shown to be critical to the formation of healthy sperm. Higher intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts are important, but supplements are also needed to get sufficient amounts of these nutrients for noticeable effects on sperm quality.

  • WILL FERTILITYSMART WORK FOR ME?

  • OVER 40

    For Women

Several successful customers in their 40's have shared their stories via our website, either through our in-depth Success Stories or more informally through the testimonials. While it's more challenging for women over 40 to fall pregnant naturally it's not impossible. Of course, luck has a huge part to play but you may be able to improve your odds.

One of the changes many women experience as they grow older is an imbalance in the key hormones necessary for ovulation and conception. FertilitySmart Conceive for Women optimises levels of oestrogen and progesterone, regulating the menstrual cycle and promoting ovulation.

Egg quality is far more important than egg quantity when trying to conceive naturally. Anti-oxidants in Conceive for Women protect the rapidly developing eggs from the sort of DNA damage that could prevent conception. It also promotes the growth of a healthy endometrial lining which is essential for a successful pregnancy.

There are also some lifestyle interventions that might help - stopping smoking if you smoke, staying within or getting to a recommended range for BMI (neither too high or too low), moderate daily physical exercise, limiting or eliminating caffeine and alcohol. Reducing levels of stress through mindfulness/meditation has also been shown to be helpful.

    For Men

  • LOW OVARIAN RESERVE – HIGH FSH OR LOW AMH

    For Women

Receiving a diagnosis of low ovarian reserve due to high follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) or low anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is quite a blow if you've been trying to conceive for a while. However, having a high FSH or low AMH level alone is not necessarily predictive of the time taken to fall pregnant. It is predictive of how well you would respond to IVF. These tests are routinely used in fertility clinics and have come to be used more generally to measure ‘fertility’.

Recent research has shown that these tests which estimate ovarian reserve, or the number of a woman's remaining eggs, before menopause, do not appear to predict short-term chances of conception.

In this study conducted at the University of North Carolina, 750 women from 30 to 44 years of age who had been attempting to conceive for three or fewer months with no known fertility issues, having either a high level of FSH or a low level of AMH made no significant difference to their results.

Egg quality is far more important than egg quantity when trying to conceive naturally. And that is where FertilitySmart Conceive for Women can help. It will promote a better hormonal balance and contains anti-oxidants to protect the rapidly developing eggs from the sort of DNA damage that could prevent conception. It promotes the growth of a healthy endometrial lining - also essential for a successful pregnancy.

  • PCOS

    For Women

Conceive for Women contains several ingredients, including Agnus Castus, which can help balance hormone levels which are commonly affected by PCOS. Vitex Agnus Castus regulates pituitary gland function. This helps in shifting the oestrogen to progesterone ratio in favour of progesterone. Typically, this ratio is skewed in women with PCOS.

Many women diagnosed with PCOS are oestrogen dominant, producing too much prolactin and too little progesterone. If progesterone levels are too low ovulation may not occur and the body is not able to prepare a healthy endometrial lining. Vitex Agnus Castus is particularly helpful in maintaining stable progesterone levels during post-ovulation.

PCOS is increasingly common and many of our customers have used FertilitySmart Conceive for Women to successfully regulate their cycle and improve their chances of conceiving naturally.

  • ENDROMETRIOSIS

    For Women

Endometriosis is an immune related condition, rather than a hormone related condition such as PCOS. However, one of the main ingredients in Conceive for Women is Vitex Agnus Castus and although it primarily affects the endocrine balance in the body, there is some evidence to suggest it may also have a beneficial effect on inflammation and along with the range of anti-oxidants in Conceive for Women it may be helpful for Endometriosis.

  • TUBAL LIGATION

    For Women

If you have had your tubes tied (also called a tubal ligation) this is a physical procedure designed to prevent conception by either severing or blocking the fallopian tube which would normally carry an egg from the ovary to the uterus. It is designed to be permanent. This procedure has about a 1% failure rate - tubes do sometime grow back. But in most cases another surgical procedure would have to be carried out to reverse the tubal ligation.

Reversal works best for women who are healthy and younger than 38 years old. The best results happen if it has been 10 years or less since the original surgery, and if only small sections of the middle of the tubes were damaged.

If your tubal ligation reversal is successful, then FertilitySmart Conceive might help you to fall pregnant.

  • MISCARRIAGE

    For Women

Miscarriage is more common than you might think. As many as half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage -- most often before you miss a menstrual period or even know you are pregnant. About 15-25% of recognized pregnancies will end in a miscarriage.

Recent research has shown that one of the main reasons for early miscarriage is related to DNA abnormality. Rapidly developing cell such as eggs are particularly susceptible to oxidative damage. Conceive for Women contains high levels of antioxidants to protect eggs this type of damage, although sperm are much more vulnerable than eggs to DNA damage.

Another factor in early miscarriage may be problems in the endometrial lining of the uterus. The hormone balancing effect of Conceive for Women via Vitex Agnus Castus stimulates the growth of a healthy endometrium by providing sufficient progesterone and L-Arginine, an amino acid, stimulates the reproductive organs themselves by improving circulation.

Having a miscarriage is always distressing. Not all miscarriages can be prevented but having a miscarriage doesn’t mean you won’t conceive again in the future. Most women who miscarry go on to have healthy pregnancies later.

  • LOW SPERM or NO SPERM

    For Men

Conceive for Men helps boost both sperm quantity and quality for most men and if you have been diagnosed with low sperm count or poor quality sperm it's likely that our supplement will help. Conceive for Men improves hormone imbalance and protects developing sperm from excess DNA damage in addition to providing all the nutrients necessary for making healthy sperm.

It takes your body 75-90 days to make new sperm and you should plan to complete a full 3 month course of FertilitySmart Conceive for Men before expecting a significant change to your sperm. You may wish to retest after 90 days.

If the results of a sperm test indicate no sperm – a condition known as azoospermia – whether or not FertilitySmart will be of benefit will depend on the cause. Although low hormone levels can be the culprit, it may be something more fundamental. If you haven't already had a medical investigation to pinpoint the cause, we would urge you to do so. There are options for treatment, but most require some sort of medical intervention.

  • IRREGULAR CYCLE

    For Women

Hormone imbalances can cause problems with cycle length and if you are looking to either lengthen or shorten your cycle for optimum fertility then FertilitySmart Conceive for Women can help. For most women the effect of Vitex Agnus Castus - one of the key ingredients in FertilitySmart Conceive for Women - is to bring their hormones into the correct balance required for successful conception. This is particularly the case when cycles are irregular and either of too short or too long a length.

If your cycle has been irregular for quite some time it is likely to take longer for Conceive for Women to bring your hormones back into balance. You should plan on it taking 3 months before expecting significant change.

  • REGULAR CYCLE

    For Women

Conceive for Women is designed for women who are having difficulty conceiving and that can happen for any number of reasons. Some of which, like having irregular cycles, are more obvious than others. If you've already experienced a longer than usual time to pregnancy, then Conceive for Women may be a useful strategy to shorten that time period.

If your cycle is already like clockwork, you may experience some variation in the timings of your cycle for a few months. This only happens to a small percentage of women who have regular cycles and it might not happen with you. Unless you find you are getting a shorter than normal luteal phase (the time between ovulation and the first day of your period if you are not successful in that cycle should be 10 -14 days in length) then this is nothing to worry about and it should settle down after a month or two.

If after 3 months your cycle has not settled in to a regular pattern, then we would suggest that Conceive for Women may not be appropriate for you. Although FertilitySmart Conceive for Women is safe, gentle and effective, it will not work in exactly the same way for everyone.

  • PERIMENOPAUSE

    For Women

Perimenopause refers to the years leading up to menopause. For most women this will happen sometime your 40’s and the most noticeable symptom is usually a change to your menstrual cycle. It may become more irregular or shorter or you might find you are not ovulating every month. Some women also experience menopause-like symptoms, such as hot flashes, sleep problems and vaginal dryness.

Pregnancy is still possible during the perimenopause. FertilitySmart Conceive for Women is very effective in helping regulate hormone levels which should promote a more regular balanced cycle and encourage ovulation. Provided you are still ovulating at the outset or begin to ovulate more regularly after taking Conceive for Women, it should help improve your chances of pregnancy.

If you are no longer ovulating at all due to lack of ovarian reserve or you are truly in menopause (12 consecutive months without a period), it's unlikely that FertilitySmart will help restore your cycle and fertility.

If you are not currently tracking ovulation either by means of an ovulation prediction kit or by charting basal body temperature, you might want to track your cycle for a few months before taking FertilitySmart Conceive to create a baseline. We would also note that for most women in perimenopause, it can take up to 3 months before significant changes to hormone levels occur.

  • TWINS or MULTIPLES, A BOY OR GIRL?

    For Women

As far as we are aware there is no supplement that can help with trying to conceive twins. The factors that contribute to a higher likelihood for having twins are; family history of twins, being a twin yourself, having a higher BMI and older age at conception. None of these factors are modifiable with a supplement of any kind.

FertilitySmart is designed to help improve overall chances of conception and does not favour one sex over the other.

  • AFTER DEPO-PROVERA OR MIRENA

    For Women

Hormone imbalances can cause problems with cycle length and if you are looking to either lengthen or shorten your cycle for optimum fertility then FertilitySmart Conceive for Women can help. Some women also use it help 'kickstart' a sluggish reproductive cycle and bring about a more regular pattern. If you have not been having regular cycles for some time and do not find that FertilitySmart Conceive for Women helps after a few months we would suggest a visit to your doctor to rule out anything requiring medical intervention.

If you have been on an injectable or implantable form of contraception such as Depo-Provera or Nexplanon do be aware that it can take some time - anywhere from 2 months to a year - before your periods become normal again. FertilitySmart Conceive for Women might help here but results will vary. You may want to see your doctor to discuss other options to restart your cycle if you do not want to wait for FertilitySmart or nature to take its course.

Most women will find their cycle resumes fairly quickly after the removal of a hormonal IUD such as Mirena but for others it can be a few months before things get back to normal. As above, FertilitySmart may help this happen sooner.

  • WHEN DO I TAKE IT?

    For Women

Take 2 capsules daily, any time of day, but preferably split into 2 doses to spread out absorption. If taking vitamins or minerals on an empty stomach bothers you, take after meals. You can start taking FertilitySmart Conceive any time during your cycle. It usually takes 2-3 months to show significant changes in hormone balance, but keep taking for up to a year, or until pregnancy is confirmed.

  • SAFETY

  • IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULD AVOID TAKING FERTILITYSMART CONCEIVE?

    For Women

If pregnant or breastfeeding you should only take supplements recommended by your doctor. As a rule, anyone with pre-existing medical conditions or on prescription medications should consult with their doctor or pharmacist before starting a new diet or supplement. Do not take with Clomid or other fertility drugs. Can be taken in conjunction with prenatal vitamins. Discontinue once pregnancy is verified and inform your physician that you were taking a dietary supplement that has been shown in clinical studies to normalize progesterone levels. Ask your doctor whether it would be prudent to prescribe a progesterone supplement upon discontinuing FertilitySmart Conceive as an alternative means of sustaining healthy progesterone levels. Although Chasteberry has been safely taken during early pregnancy to help prevent miscarriage in cases of progesterone deficiency, it is always safest to avoid any drugs or supplements during pregnancy unless prescribed by your physician.

  • CAN I TAKE FERTILITYSMART CONCEIVE FOR WOMEN WHEN I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?

    For Women

We do not recommend taking FertilitySmart Conceive For Women, or any supplement other than prenatal vitamins while pregnant or breastfeeding, unless prescribed by your doctor. Although Chasteberry is not generally recommended during pregnancy, it has been used to prevent miscarriage in the first trimester of pregnancy with cases of progesterone insufficiency. None of the other ingredients carry any specific warnings against use by healthy pregnant or breastfeeding women, but it is advisable to switch to prenatal vitamins during this period.
